Every year, digital scams evolve, requiring constant attention from consumers to avoid falling into new traps. In periods of greater commercial appeal, such as Black Friday and Christmas, this risk intensifies. Although scams directly affect consumers, the impacts on economic sectors are significant.
A new survey by Branddi, a specialist in brand protection in the digital environment, heard Brazilians from all states in Brazil to analyze the scenario of online scams in the last two months of 2025, a period that concentrated the main commercial dates in the country.
According to Branddi's internal data, retail was the sector most affected in the period, concentrating 40% of digital attacks, followed by the financial segment (21%) and the technology sector (10%). In addition to breaking trust and impacting reputation, fraud generates financial losses and damages the credibility of the companies involved.
The survey also shows the main signs perceived by consumers, which help to identify fraud online.
Top 5 warning signs for digital scams, according to Brazilians
- Ads with prices well below the market: 78%
- Visual identity or dubious information: 57%
- Profiles with few followers or comments disabled: 40%
- Ads with unusual payment offers: 39%
- Repetitive and constant ads: 32%
Social networks concentrate the majority of scam attempts
Fraud attempts reach consumers through different channels, such as fake emails or links that lead to fraudulent websites. Still, social networks remain the main method of approach: 51% of respondents said they had come across false ads on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok or Facebook. Next, fake profiles appear, also created within these networks (32%).
How to protect yourself from online scams?
For consumers, some simple measures can significantly reduce the risk of falling for digital fraud. According to Diego Daminelli, CEO of Branddi, the first step is to always look for official channels before making a purchase.
"We recommend that consumers prioritize official websites, with reliable domains, especially those ending in .com.br. Checking the URL is essential, as scammers often use minimal variations, such as .shop, -oficial or br-oficial, to confuse the user”, he explains.
“Another important recommendation is to never complete purchases using unknown WhatsApp numbers and remain suspicious of excessively low prices, even during periods such as Black Friday, known for great promotions”.
“Finally, it is essential to use tools to check the legitimacy of websites before completing a purchase. Solutions such as Branddi (<a. href="https://fraudeounao.branddi.com/">https://fraudeounao.branddi.com/) help to validate the suitability of e-commerces, especially when it comes to new or little-known brands”, adds Daminelli.
For brands, digital protection must be seen as an ongoing strategy: “Monitoring the misuse of the brand, acting quickly against fraud and maintaining clear communication with the consumer are actions essential to preserve reputation and trust in the digital environment”, concludes Daminelli.
