80% of Brazilian companies are exposed to digital threats: here's what you need to know
branddi ·
Imagine having a store and leaving it open day and night, without any type of security, camera or protection. This is exactly what happens to brands that do not invest in digital protection, after all, their digital presence is as essential as their physical presence. id="">The searchAccording to a study carried out by VULTUS Cybersecurity Ecosystem, 80% of medium and large Brazilian companies do not have a structured and integrated plan to face digital attacks. Furthermore, 67% of them do not have processes dedicated to cyber protection, and 55% do not even monitor threats on an ongoing basis.
In other words, analyzing these numbers we can understand that a large part of the country's brands are exposed and vulnerable to the action of unfair competitors, malicious partners, fraudsters and violators: in fact, the probability of suffering a serious attack in the coming months is 7.3 on a scale of 0 to 10.But why does this really happen?
Lack of awareness
Even today, many brands believe that digital threats are an inseparable part of their digital presence. In other words, they see these attacks as something inevitable, which they simply have to live with.
This mentality, although common, is a big mistake. After all, a company's digital presence should be seen like any other aspect of the business: something that needs to be protected and managed carefully, and seeing threats as something “common” ends up leading many brands to underestimate the risks and not take the appropriate measures to protect themselves.
Constant evolution of online scams
Currently, when we talk about online scams targeting companies, we are not just referring to to simple and visibly false attempts. This is because these offenders and violators already use advanced techniques, such as highly personalized phishing through deepfakes, social engineering and commercial violations such as brand bidding.
In other words, it is not an exaggeration to say that traditional protection for companies has already been greatly surpassed and has become generic when compared to current digital threats. High expenditure, especially when the attack has not yet occurred, causes many businesspeople to underestimate the importance of protection and prefer to "leave it for later". However, this view can be extremely harmful in the long term.
After all, the cost of not adopting a digital protection plan is much greater than the initial investment in protection, as the consequences can be devastating: interruption of operations, damage to reputation and even fines and penalties due to failures to protect confidential information.
In other words, investing in this protection is a preventive step: the sooner companies adopt effective practices and solutions, the lower the costs will be in the future, both financially and in terms of damage to the image.
Priority in other areas
Many companies end up prioritizing other areas of the business, such as sales growth, marketing or innovation, while neglecting digital security. This is without thinking that digital protection directly impacts these sectors and, therefore, must be a fundamental part of any growth strategy.
In other words, by integrating digital protection from the beginning, companies not only protect their data and operations, but also gain a competitive advantage by demonstrating commitment to the trust and protection of their customers.
Lack of specialized human resources
The shortage of experts in the area of digital protection is a limiting factor, as it requires a trained team to monitor, manage and respond to incidents in real time.
Without these professionals, many companies, especially small and medium-sized ones (which are also targets for these attacks), are unable to implement the best security practices or even realize the severity of these risks.
Prepare your brand for the future
As we saw above, there are several answers to why many brands are underestimating the importance of online protection. However, it is essential to understand that the digital landscape is constantly evolving, and so are the threats: in other words, at some point your business will fall victim to these attacks and the only question will be when this will happen, not if it will happen.
But don't worry: there is still time to make up for lost time and resources and put your company at the forefront of online protection. After all, brands that anticipate digital risks are better positioned to take advantage of market opportunities and grow safely, without fearing the impact of a possible attack.
