New digital scam: new research exposes the explosion of cases

A recent survey released in G1 set off a red alert for companies of all sizes: the fake online store scam skyrocketed and became the most common shopping fraud in Brazil, predominating in almost every state.

The survey, carried out by the SOS Golpe platform in partnership with CloudWalk, analyzed thousands of complaints and reveals a scenario in which criminals take advantage of the growing popularity of e-commerce to harm consumers and, consequently, harm the reputation of legitimate brands.

Do you want to know more about the shocking numbers revealed by this research and how it directly impacts your brand? Keep reading!

What the research revealed about the explosion of online scams

The research by SOS Golpe and CloudWalk is convincing: of the approximately 11,800 complaints analyzed, 45.1% were related to buying scams.

This means that almost half of registered digital scams involve consumers who were lured by false promotions on sites that impersonated legitimate online stores, but which disappeared after payment via PIX.

The average loss for each victim of this scam is R$ 740, a loss that weighs on the pocket and undermines confidence in e-commerce.

However, in addition to the fake online store scam, the research also highlighted other types of scams that are on the rise, such as the cloned company scam, in which criminals copy the websites of real companies to deceive consumers, and the scam of the seller of used items, common on social networks, where accounts are hacked and non-existent products are offered to the victim's followers.

How does the explosion of online scams threaten your brand's reputation?

It is essential to understand that Scams online are not just a problem for consumers. After all, they pose a serious threat to the reputation and financial health of any brand, regardless of its size or business segment.

When a consumer is harmed by a scammer using your company's name or image, trust in your brand is shaken, resulting in a loss of customers, a drop in sales, and damage to the institutional image.

Imagine the following situation: a customer encounters a fake advertisement on social media that offers a product from your brand at an unmissable discount. He clicks on the ad, gets redirected to a fake site that looks like yours, makes the purchase, and never receives the product.

Frustrated and angry, he blames his brand for the scam and shares his negative experience on social media, warning other consumers about the problem. This type of situation can spread quickly and cause irreparable damage to your reputation, have you ever imagined?

What have you done to protect your brand from this threatening scenario?

Faced with the alarming numbers revealed by the SOS Golpe and CloudWalk survey, the question that remains is: what have you, as the owner or manager of a company, have done to protect your brand against the explosion of online scams?

The truth is that brand protection in the digital age requires a proactive and constant approach, especially in the face of the exponential growth of online scams. In other words, it's not enough just to create a beautiful website and invest in flashy marketing campaigns: you need to go further, actively monitoring the internet, identifying and combating online threats that may compromise your company's reputation and financial health.

Protecting your brand is about ensuring the safety of your customers, the integrity of your business, and the sustainability of your long-term success. So don't wait until it's too late to act: invest now in an effective brand protection strategy and ensure that your company is prepared to face the challenges of the digital world.
